A Framework for Schoolwide Transformation

A Clear Path to Sustainable Change

Achieving meaningful, system-wide change in education often feels out of reach.

Despite their best intentions, educational leaders frequently struggle to turn their visions into reality due to a lack of clear direction and cohesive support.

This gap—between the desire for transformation and the ability to implement it effectively—can hinder progress and sustain the status quo.

The Leader in Me Framework bridges this gap by providing a comprehensive roadmap that guides schools through the daily actions necessary to achieve their goals. By offering a unifying structure and the essential resources, Leader in Me empowers educators, students, and families to collaborate towards lasting, positive change.

Central to this transformation is recognizing how expectations shape every decision and interaction, ultimately influencing outcomes for students and schools.

The Power of Expectations in Student and School Success

Nearly 60 years of research on paradigms, or expectations, has consistently shown their influence on teaching practices and students' academic and life outcomes. However, this understanding has not fully reached the front lines of education. While educators frequently discuss desired outcomes and effective instructional practices, there is far less emphasis on the underlying paradigms that shape these decisions. In 2018, Dr. Christine M. Rubie-Davies compiled research on teacher expectations,1 emphasizing their impact on student outcomes. Explore her findings on the cyclical nature of these expectations:

The Leader in Me Framework

The Leader in Me Framework is organized into three interdependent parts called the See-Do-Get® Cycle. How we see, our paradigms, drives what we do, our actions and behaviors, which determines the results we get. This simple yet powerful cycle breaks us out of the “doing” and “getting” trap by growing our awareness of the paradigms that keep us stuck. With the right paradigms schools and districts reach exponential growth.

How Leader in Me Schools SEE Differently

At the core of Leader in Me is the SeeDoGet® model:

See: How we perceive challenges and opportunities.
Do: The actions we take based on those perceptions.
Get: The outcomes we achieve as a result of our actions.

We’ve integrated the SeeDoGet® cycle into our framework because it succinctly captures the research-backed relationship between beliefs, actions, and outcomes. Adjusting paradigms—such as embracing leadership potential in every student—can transform teaching approaches and elevate student engagement and achievement.

The Leader in Me Framework: Our Core Paradigms

Leader in Me is anchored in 5 Core Paradigms that reflect essential insights from educational and developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and leadership theory. These paradigms shape everything we do, guiding schools away from limiting beliefs and toward a more inclusive, capacity-building approach.

The Leader in Me Five Core Paradigms are:

Paradigm of Leadership | Paradigm of Potential | Paradigm of Change | Paradigm of Motivation | Paradigm of Education
